Here’s a brief look at some of our key figures who head up the Openwork offering.
Mary-Anne McIntyre
Chief Executive Officer
Mary-Anne McIntyre joined Openwork as Chief Operating Officer in Autumn 2010, before being appointed Chief Executive Officer in June 2011.
Mary-Anne was recruited from Fidelity International, where she was Head of Customer Services & Strategic Alliances, responsible for operational and technology management of the group’s key UK strategic business partners. She ran a team of 700 people based in the UK and India.
Mary-Anne played an important role in developing the service proposition of Fidelity FundsNetwork, prior to which she helped establish wrap platform Nucleus.
Mary-Anne has previously worked for companies including Start Up (UK), where she was Finance Director; Amvescap, where she was Managing Director of Customer Servicing and TPA Operations; and Perpetual, where she was Director of Risk and Human Resources. She also spent 12 years at Deloitte, latterly as Group Director, Financial Services.
Kate Avery
Chair
Kate joined the Openwork Holdings board in April 2009 as Non Executive Director (appointed Chair in July) and is also Chair of the Openwork Investment Committee.
Kate knows UK Financial Services and Distribution inside out having been at Legal & General for 13 years with 10 years on the Main Board (including managing all of the Distribution Channels) and most recently as Group Executive Director, Wealth Management. Before that, Kate spent 18 years at Barclays, which included a spell as Managing Director of Barclays Stockbrokers, Barclays Trust Company and Deputy Managing Director of Barclays General Insurance.
Kate has an MBA from Cranfield University, is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and Securities Institute, a Member of the Chartered Institute of Banking and an Adviser to Cranfield University.
Simon Brunt
Strategic Integration Director
Simon is a Chartered Accountant, and took on his current role in October 2011. Among other priorities, he is responsible for managing the integration and delivery of the 2plan RI and IFA businesses. Simon had previously been Finance Director for the Openwork Group since its launch in 2005.
Prior to his involvement in Openwork, Simon was Finance Director for Bolero, a private equity backed global technology start-up founded by SWIFT, the financial telecommunications cooperative. Simon has also held senior roles in ICI, undertaking international M & A and Ocean Group where he was European Financial Controller for their logistics and commodities storage businesses.
Paul Mitchener
Governance Director
Paul was appointed to the role of Governance Director in April 2010, following a period of risk consultancy for the Group. He brings 30 years of Retail Financial Services experience to the company, having held senior compliance and conduct of business roles in both distribution and product provider contexts.
Paul was previously Director of Operations, Risk and Business Standards for Legal and General’s Retail Distribution division and, more recently, Director of Operational Quality for their Wealth Management business.
His responsibilities cover compliance, risk, complaints, investigations and legal services, along with management of our relationship with the FSA as the Approved Person accountable for compliance oversight. Paul is also our Executive representative for the Openwork Charitable Foundation.
Martin Spencer
Human Resources Director
Martin joined Openwork as Sales Training and Development Director when the business launched in 2005, before taking up his current role two years later.
Martin previously worked for Zurich Financial Services as Capability Development Director, leading the Learning and Development function for all of Zurich’s UK businesses which comprised 15,000 staff.
Before that he held the role of Zurich’s UK Life HR Associate Director, Training and Development – a position which followed spells at Allied Dunbar and leading consultancy firm CPCR Human Resources Consultants.
Mark Duckworth
Managing Director of Distribution and Marketing
Mark joined Openwork as Commercial Development Director in late 2010, gaining promotion to Managing Director of Distribution and Marketing in July 2011.
Mark joined Openwork from Living Time, where he was Distribution and Partnerships Director responsible for all sales distribution, strategy and key deals throughout the UK. Previously, Mark worked for companies including Prudential, where he was Distribution Director, responsible for distribution throughout Europe and the Middle East; AXA, where he was National Sales Manager; and Scottish Amicable, where he was Regional Sales Manager.
Mark is responsible for all elements of Openwork’s distribution, including adviser recruitment, marketing and the development of our overall proposition strategy.
Paul Bridge
Chief Operating Officer
Paul has worked in Financial Services for over 30 years, joining from Aviva where he was interim Change Delivery Director within Life and Pensions.
He has also worked for companies including Bupa Health and Wellbeing, where he was director of UK Change and Technology, and a number of other organisations including Barclays, Invesco Perpetual, Allied Irish Bank, Scottish Widows and Ernst & Young.
As COO, Paul will assume responsibility for our Partner facing support functions as well as delivery of our strategic change programme, including platform delivery.
Ian Lovett
Chairman, Openwork Foundation
Ian is Chairman of the Openwork Foundation, which has raised millions of pounds for hundreds of charity projects in the UK and abroad, thanks to the efforts of Openwork staff and advisers.
Ian has also held a variety of senior roles in the Zurich Group (he is currently Chairman of Dunbar Bank) in a career spanning more than 25 years. Before joining Allied Dunbar in 1984, Ian had a varied career at Barclays, including a spell heading up the Small Business Unit and managing a number of large branches in central London.
Ian is Chairman of Middlesex County Cricket Club and was appointed to the England and Wales Cricket Board in 2009.
