Philippine Community Fund
In 2007, the Openwork Foundation awarded the Philippine Community Fund (PCF) a grant of £300,000 over three years to construct a new school building on the Smokey Mountain rubbish dump site in Manila.
Seventy-four recycled shipping containers were repurposed to build a four-storey building with 29 classrooms.
The Openwork Foundation School was officially opened on 2 December 2010. This three-year project was made possible by the fundraising efforts of our staff and advisers.
The next chapter
We're now supporting PCF's Income Generation Programme, which helps cover the operational costs of the school. We do this through collecting ring-pulls from cans that the children's parents recycle to create unique and interesting gifts.
